Psalm 54

(Worship leader: This David poem is best when played full electric, since it was written when the people of Ziph snitched to Saul, saying, “David is trying to hide here.”)

Your reputation is on the line here, God,
So save me!
Powerfully preserve
My reputation, too.
I’m praying to you, God,
So please pay attention.
I need you to listen
To what I’m saying.

Self-important, hateful people
Are out to get me.
They’ll break any law
To kill me,
These people who live as if God
Doesn’t exist.

This one reality sustains me:
God is my help.

Let destruction boomerang
On these toxic tongues.
Prove the substance of your commitment to me
By destroying them.

When this is resolved,
I’ll set up a ceremony
To offer myself without reservation
To you.
I’ll sing the sweetest name ever:
Yahweh.
For you will methodically
Deal with all my troubles,
One by one.
With my own eyes,
I’ll see victory unfold
Over my opponents.
