Psalm 28

(A David

I’m not keeping quiet, Yahweh.
You’re the only solid thing in my life,
Don’t pretend you can’t hear me.
If you keep quiet,
I’m dead meat.
My only hope
Is your help.
I need you to listen to me.
I need you to love me.
My whole life leans toward you
As I pray.

Don’t toss me in prison
Like a criminal.
I’ve been duped by
Welcoming words
And sweet smiles
That hide venomous hearts.
Put them behind bars, not me.
Let them be brutalized
By their own brutality.

They don’t care about Yahweh
Or anything he’s done.
So, he’ll slam his wrecking ball
Into their derelict souls,
Into their condemned building lives.

Oh thank goodness!
Yahweh heard my desperate prayer.
Yahweh is a firefighter,
Pulling me from the flames.
I count on him completely.
He never lets me down.
My heart throws a party,
Dancing with delight.

Yahweh doesn’t just rescue me,
His strength is for all
His people.
So, save them!
They’re your treasure,
So treat them like it.
Heft them on your shoulders
And haul them to safety,
Now and always.
