Psalm 21

(For the worship leader. A David psalm.)

Your strength, Yahweh,
Is the source of the king’s joy.
You bring victory after victory
And he adds joy on top of joy.

You gave him his wildest dream.
He asked and you gave it to him
Without fail.
You gave him wealth
And put a crown of pure gold
On his head.
He asked for a long, full life
And you gave it to him.
Because of all the battles he’s won,
Everyone knows his name
And respects him.
You haven’t held back,
Lavishing luxuries on him.
You’ve given him full access
To your limitless bank account of blessings.
He soaks in your presence,
Brimming with joy.
The king has pledged his allegiance
To Yahweh,
Who has met this loyalty
With a relentless, never-stopping love —
The solid ground
The king has built his life on.

You, king, will beat all your adversaries.
You’ll body-slam your haters.
You’ll blaze through like a bonfire
On the battlefield.
Yahweh will burn them to a crisp,
Leaving only ashes behind.
You, king, will scrub the earth of them,
Erasing them completely.
Their plots and schemes will add up
To a big, fat zero.
When they see you coming,
They’ll run for their mommies.

Sit on your throne, strong Yahweh
And listen to us sing
Of your strength.
