Psalm 142

(A heavy David poem, a prayer from when he was hiding in a cave.)

Here I am again,
Praying to you, Yahweh,
Begging,
Pleading,
Urgently asking for help.
I know I’m complaining.
But I’m going to tell you my trouble
And not leave out a detail.

My spirit leaks from me.
But you know it,
You see it.
You know and see the trap
Slyly set for me to step in.
Who has my back?
Nobody.
Who can I go to for help?
No one.
I’m all alone.

So, I pray to you, Yahweh:
“You won’t deny me refuge.
You’re the only one alive
Who’s on my side.”

Hear my sighs
As prayers.
I’m so depressed,
My life feels like it’s caving in on me.
Carry me away
From my haters.
I just don’t have the energy to deal with them.
My life is a prison.
Get me out of this dreary confinement
So I can get back to praising you.
Set me back in the middle
Of right-hearted, right-living people.
Give my story a fairy-tale ending.
