Psalm 14

(A David psalm. For singing.)

The mantra of an empty life:
“God doesn’t exist.”
Their atheism is an excuse
For doing whatever they want,
Hurting whomever they want.
Empty your life of God
And your goodness leaks out too.

But there is a God
And when he looks around
Peering into human hearts,
Guess what he sees?
People seeking God?
Sadly, no. None.

Everyone turns from God.
They all turn in on themselves.
They spoil and go bad.
They start to stink.
No God is no good.
Don’t they realize how stupid they’re being?

They toss people aside like so much trash,
Not even worth recycling.
They’re as interested in talking to God
As in getting a root canal.
So when life spins out of control on them,
They panic.
No God means no help.

But God is here, present
In the middle of those who love him.
Though the godless pull the rug out
From under the poor,
God sets the vulnerable back
On their feet again.

Worship is where salvation begins;
It’s also where salvation ends.
Worshiping eyes see a God-filled world,
Restoring our hope,
Restoring our hearts,
Restoring our lives,
Looping us back into worship again.
