Psalm 124

(A David song for pilgrims on the road up to Zion.)

If Yahweh hadn’t been on our side —
Come on, Israel,
Let me hear you say it —
If Yahweh hadn’t been on our side,
When surrounded
By people against us,
Then we would have been burned alive
In the fire of their anger,
Drowned
In their raging river,
Our souls swept away
In sound and fury.

Oh bless you, Yahweh!
You didn’t let them get their teeth
Into us.
Like a bird uncaged,
A fly freed from a spider’s web,
So we escaped.

We find help in one place,
In Yahweh,
Maker of heaven and earth.
