Psalm 116

I’m overcome with love!
He heard me!
I was crying for mercy
And he heard me!
He stopped and turned my way.
I’ll pray as long as I breathe.

Death had me.
I was tangled up,
Snared.
The grave was closing in on me.
I was overwhelmed,
Sinking in sorrow.
But then I said a name:
Yahweh.
“Yahweh! Help!”

Yahweh is so good,
Always doing the gracious thing,
The right thing,
The compassionate thing.
Yahweh protects us,
Even when we’re being stupid.
When I was looking up
From the bottom of a well,
He got me out.

Hush, my soul.
Lay down.
Rest.
Yahweh is taking care of you.

You were there for me, Yahweh.
Kept me from dying.
Kept me from crying.
Kept me from being stupid
And walking away from you.
Now, I can walk with you
In your way,
Alive.

It was trust
That got me to speak up:
“I’m a wreck.”
It was panic speaking
When I said,
“They’re all liars.”

What gift can I give to Yahweh
To match all this goodness
He’s poured out of me?
I’ll raise a glass
To drink deeply of salvation
As I call on Yahweh’s name.
I’ll make good on every promise
I made to Yahweh
And I’ll do it in front of all his people.

Yahweh has a tender place in his heart
Touched by his faithful servants
When they die.
And here I am,
Your faithful servant, Yahweh,
Serving you
Just like my mother did before me.
And here you are,
Untangling me from death’s snare.

Yes, I’ll make an offering
To match my thankfulness to you.
I’ll call on Yahweh’s name.
I’ll make good on every promise
I made to Yahweh
And I’ll do it in front of all his people,
Right there in Yahweh’s house,
Right in the heart of Jerusalem.

Hallelujah!
