Laws exist where love doesn’t

The only reason we need laws is because we lack love. Laws exist to protect relationships. When our relationships are robust, there’s no need for laws to protect them. But when the bonds tying people together become weak, they need to be fortified by laws. The problem with that is wherever we rely on laws, we become weaker in love.

Think of it like an injured leg. The longer we keep off of it, using crutches or a wheelchair, the weaker it becomes; while the quicker we’re back on it, the less time rehabilitation takes. So, the less we lean on laws, the stronger our love. But the more we lean on laws, the weaker our love.

So, wherever we’re clamoring for news laws, what we really need is more love.

There is a time and a place for law. It’s a necessary stop gap when love is thin. But law is never the answer. Love is.
